A Chrismon, meaning “Christ monogram,” is a beautiful symbol of faith. Traditionally crafted in white and gold, these designs incorporate Christian symbols that reflect Christ’s identity, His story, and the Holy Trinity. Chrismons originated in 1957, lovingly created by Frances Spencer and the women of Ascension Lutheran Church in Danville, VA.
In this tradition, our Chrismons were lovingly crafted by the ladies of our Women in Mission in 1983 and 1984. Each intricate design took about a month and a half to complete, created by dedicated women who trained specifically for this meaningful project. Before these beautifully made Chrismons, we used ones made of Styrofoam or wire, which only lasted a few years before crumbling or losing their shape. Our current Chrismons have stood the test of time, adorning our Christmas Tree for 40 years and counting. What a lasting blessing they have been!
